Wow, there’s been a lot going on here! Mom got me a new baby sister! To say I was shocked is an understatement! Mom’s been volunteering at the Humane Society, and she fell in love with Penny, a Chihuahua/Min Pin mix. When Penny came home, she was only 3 months old and she was SO skinny. Obviously, the people who had her before didn’t bother to feed her. All her ribs, backbone, and hips were sticking out. She was so skinny the Humane Society wouldn’t even spay her, which is a real stretch for them. After about 3 days at home on a raw diet, Penny filled out and started looking like a healthy dog! Penny has been here for 2 1/2 weeks now, and she’s gained an entire pound - from 4 pounds to 5 pounds in only 2 weeks. That just makes Mom even happier about our change to a raw diet.
Penny and I are getting a long great, and I’m glad to have a friend more my size to play with.
Here are a couple pictures of me and Penny playing.
Penny stole my bone…
…and now I’m pouting.
Here we are wrestling.
And here I am looking cute.

With all the recalls going on right now, ranging from wet dog and cat food to dry cat food to dog treats to pigs ears, now seems to be the perfect time to try something new when feeding your dog treats. At The Swanky Pooch, we make all our treats from organic and natural ingredients - ingredients made right here in the USA. There are no artificial fillers, colors, or preservatives, and best of all NO WHEAT GLUTEN! Plus, the treats simply taste wonderful! So give our treats a try - your dog will love them!

Mom told me today that there’s no more kibble for me! It must have something to do with the violent diarrhea I have today (starting at 3am this morning!). So she started me on simple boiled chicken and oatmeal to help fix the pooing problem. Can I just say - YUM!!!! Mom has joined a number of internet groups and natural dog forums/publications to learn as much as she can about home-cooked meals for dogs. It’s totally different than treats because the meals have to be nutritionally complete while treats need to be healthy and yummy. I know Mom’s going to feed me lots of great food because her treats are wonderful. If her treats taste so wonderful, I know my food is going to be yummy too.

Aren’t all the recent pet food recalls scary! Today Mom told me that more recalls for wet food were announced, plus a recall for dog treats and a dry cat kibble. Mom is really nervous about the food she feeds me - Iams Toy Breed formula. We know the bag we have right now is safe, but it won’t last forever! Mom is trying to figure out what to do when the kibble runs out.
One thing mom is thinking about is cooking for me, which sounds yummy to me, but expensive for her. She’s researching dog food recipes to see what the proper diet would be for cooking. Raw diets are also becoming more common, but that just sounds gross to both of us.
If you have any great recipes for dog food, Mom would love it if you’d share with us. If she figures out anything about cooking, I’ll let you know!

Mom and kids took me to the vet yesterday. Mom told me that it was necessary because I was due for my yearly check up, but she didn’t tell me they were going to stick needles in me and squirt stuff in my nose. Even worse, they took my blood! Thankfully, the vet proclaimed me super healthy and safe for another year. When I was done with my appointment, Amy and Adam tried to feed me some treats they had there at the vet’s office. Let me just say, I was less than impressed. I only ate them because they kept sticking them in my face. They sure didn’t taste nearly as good as Mom’s treats!
Mom told me that I had to get my shots because she’s started volunteering at the Humane Society of North Texas. She was worried she might bring some germs home from the shelter with her and she wants me to be protected as much as possible. Mom went yesterday to volunteer, and it sounds like such a sad place for a sweet dog to end up. Mom says they have to live in cages, and they only get to get out for walks and love when volunteers come to visit them. Mom walked a Golden Retriever, an English Setter, two Basset Hounds, two Daschund mixes, a Chihuahua mix, and a Min Pin mix. She said the dogs loved to sit on her lap for rubs and kisses.
Here are a few of the dogs Mom visited yesterday:
I’m glad Mom got to give these sweet dogs some love, but even more, I hope they find a great home soon.

Did you notice I’ve been gone? It’s been two weeks since my last blog entry. The strangest thing happened to me - Mom made me into a dog for two weeks! GASP! Grandma came to visit, and she’s allergic to me. So Mom made me stay outside in the yard except when it was bed time. It was so foreign to me - being a dog. Thankfully, it was beautiful spring weather here in Texas so it was nice to spend time outside. I had fun playing like an actual (GASP!) dog. So I had two weeks of no clothes, no conversations with Mom, no riding in the car to get the kids from school, etc. I’m glad Mom had fun, but I’m so glad to be a real person again!
Oh, and Mom and Grandma spent a weekend in Canton, and they stayed at this really nice bed and breakfast. It’s called the Humphries House, and it was built in the 1890s. Mom told me the owner has a really cute Shitz Zu. She also told me that practically EVERYONE brings their dogs to Canton. I felt a bit left out…
If you ever need a place to stay while you shop in Canton, Mom raved about this bed and breakfast.
Here’s a couple pictures of where Mom and Grandma stayed. Mom looks awfully happy sitting on the porch in the warm weather.

Ack, Mom is kicking me off the computer. She says that she has work to do. I’ll post again soon!

Mom and I were just having a heart-to-heart (while the other family members were watching The Grudge 2 - Ick!). She just shared a secret with me that I thought you might want to hear. Sshhh… Don’t tell her I told you, or I’ll be out of treats for a week!
Mom told me that she’s made a major business decision with The Swanky Pooch. Right now she carries gourmet dog treats along with other products. Her decision is that she’s only going to carry the dog treats from now on. She’s going to discontinue her dog spa products (including her AWESOME natural oatmeal dog soap and her pampered paw balm), her beautiful dog blankets, her dog jewelry, and her dog collars. As soon as these products are liquidated, Mom will only carry her gourmet dog treats.
You may be wondering why Mom is doing this. Why would she discontinue popular items? Well, I can let you in on the scoop. Mom told me that she really only ENJOYS making the dog treats. The other items are actually WORK for her. As a breast cancer survivor (at a very young age), Mom decided that she’s rather spend her time doing things she enjoys rather things she “has” to do. So, she’s decided that she’d rather make treats more than anything else.
Mom told me she’s going to be putting EVERYTHING other than dog treats on SALE to liquidate her inventory. She wants to move on right now and get over this decision. If you’re in the market for some beautiful hand-knit dog blankets, designer dog-jewelry, natural oatmeal dog soap, pampered paw balm, or one-of-a-kind dog collars, you better check out Mom’s site in the next few days. She’s going to be putting everything on a HUGE sale to clear out her inventory. Things are sure to sell out fast, so check the site out now!
Of course, be sure to enter the Swanky Pooch Photo Contest when you visit to win gift certificates to The Swanky Pooch!

I don’t know if you know this, but my mom is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed last March and had a long, hard year last year. This year she’s feeling much better, and she’s excited to be walking in the Tarrant County Komen Race for the Cure. Mom told me that I get to walk with her and our family. I’m thinking about wearing a cute pink breast cancer t-shirt (I’m sure in my masculinity!) and I’ve been checking out shirts to buy on the web. Which one of these should I pick?
Or maybe a breast cancer collar with matching leash…
I’ve been working on a blog entry about how I helped mom get through cancer. Check back soon for this entry!

I have one word for these treats - YUM!!
Mom always tells me I’m not allowed to have chocolate because it’s not good for me, but now I can have the next best thing. The rich taste of carob is sweetened with organic bananas and molasses, making these dog treats practically a dessert in my book.
Don’t they look delicious!
Mom caught me trying to get a treat off the kitchen counter. Sometimes it’s the pits being a little dog!

Can you believe it’s almost February? And you know what February means - Valentine’s Day! Humans might believe that Valentine’s Day means a celebration of “romantic love” but all of us pooches know that Valentine’s Day should be shared with the doggie love of your life.
Mom has been busy filling orders at The Swanky Pooch for some very lucky dogs who are getting gourmet dog treats to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Wouldn’t you love to get some heart-shaped dog treats made with organic ingredients?
Mom makes these in all the best flavors - Banana Carob Crunch, Carrot & Honey, Lucky Dog Liver, Peanut Butter Bliss, and Pumpkin Molasses. My personal favorite is the Pumpkin Molasses. I go nut for those every time!
And if you’re really lucky, you might get a Gourmet Dog Treat Gift Pack or a dog treat jar with your name and picture filled with your favorite treats. Just look how pretty the gift packs are!
I know that if you get any of these treats, you’ll be begging for more, just like my Chiweenie friend, Goldie:
